In a landmark ceremony held on Wednesday, June 9, 2025, Makerere University unveiled NCBA Bank Uganda as the Platinum Sponsor of the Makerere University Marathon, a flagship initiative of the Makerere University Endowment Fund (MakEF). This strategic partnership, valued at UGX 1.45 billion over five years, aims to support Economically Disadvantaged Students and establish a fully equipped Disability Support Unit.
A Shared Vision for Inclusive Education
The partnership was sealed with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Makerere University and NCBA Bank Uganda. Dr. Maggie Kigozi, MakEF Board Chairperson, expressed her excitement about the collaboration, highlighting its potential to fast-track the establishment of the Disability Support Unit and build a sustainable pool of funds for disadvantaged students.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe praised NCBA Bank for its generous sponsorship, describing it as a powerful gesture of trust in Makerere’s mission. He emphasized that the partnership would improve the quality of student life and contribute to Uganda’s future.

The fifth edition of the Makerere University Marathon, #MakRun2025, is scheduled for August 17, 2025, under the theme “Run the Hills for the Future.” The event will feature a full 42.2km marathon race with international accreditation and professional timing. With this partnership, Makerere University and NCBA Bank Uganda are poised to make a lasting impact on the lives of students and the wider community.
