Al Hajji Ibrahim Lubega Kaddunabbi CEO Insurance Regulatory Authority launching the insurance week at the insurance tower.
The Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda (IRA), led by Chief Executive Officer Al Hajji Ibrahim Lubega Kaddunabbi, has officially launched the fifth edition of the annual Insurance Week, reaffirming the regulator’s commitment to deepening insurance awareness and strengthening public engagement across the country.
The launch event was held at Insurance Tower in Kampala, setting the stage for a week-long series of activities aimed at increasing understanding of insurance services and promoting trust within the sector. Now in its fifth year, Insurance Week has grown into a key event on Uganda’s financial services calendar, providing a platform for industry players to directly interact with the public.
This year’s Insurance Week will run from March 19 to March 26 and will primarily take place at Constitutional Square in Kampala. The event will be crowned by the 2025 Insurance Innovation Awards, which recognize outstanding achievements, creativity, and excellence within the industry.
Speaking at the launch, Kaddunabbi said the 2025 edition will also run concurrently at IRA regional centres in Mbale, Mbarara, and Gulu, extending its reach beyond the capital city.
“This initiative reaffirms our commitment to expanding access to insurance services nationwide and beyond. It also provides a platform for the industry to engage with the public, deepen their understanding and appreciation of insurance, and showcase products and innovations that address consumer needs and complaints,” Kaddunabbi said.
He emphasised that one of the key highlights this year will be the establishment of a dedicated complaints desk, where members of the public can raise concerns directly with the regulator and insurance sector players. The move is intended to promote transparency, accountability, and faster resolution of grievances.
In a further effort to enhance convenience for the public, Kaddunabbi revealed that the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has been invited to participate in the event. NIRA will operate a desk at the venue to facilitate the registration of new national identity cards as well as renewals.
“This is an opportunity for us to exchange ideas on what is happening in the sector and what can be done better. It also helps ensure that insurance becomes more accessible and trusted by all Ugandans,” he noted.
Kaddunabbi urged members of the public to take full advantage of the week by engaging with licensed insurance companies and other key financial sector players to gain knowledge about available products and services.
Saul Seremba, Executive Director of the Insurance Training College, commended the IRA for its consistency in organising Insurance Week. He described the initiative as a rare and valuable opportunity to bridge the gap between the industry and the public. Seremba also pledged the college’s continued commitment to empowering the younger generation through insurance education, ensuring that they fully understand the importance of insurance and contribute to the sector’s long-term sustainability
