Housing Finance Bank (HFB) used the third edition of the Retrowave festival at Akright City to encourage Ugandans to look beyond nostalgia and invest in homeownership as a lasting legacy for future generations.

As the platinum sponsor of the event, the bank blended entertainment with financial education, using the popular music festival to engage revellers on the importance of owning a home and planning for the future.

The event attracted hundreds of people from different generations who gathered to relive classic music and celebrate shared memories. Amid the entertainment, HFB highlighted the role of homeownership in creating stability for families and preserving wealth across generations.

Speaking at the event, Hellen Musubika, Acting Head of Mortgage and Consumer Banking at Housing Finance Bank, said many Ugandans aspire to own homes but often believe the goal is beyond their financial reach.

She said the bank is working to bridge that gap through flexible mortgage products that enable customers to buy, build, renovate or improve their homes.

“Many people dream of owning a home in organised communities like Akright City but assume it is unattainable. Our home financing solutions are designed to make quality homeownership more accessible by giving customers practical options that match their financial circumstances,” Musubika said.

She added that the bank recognises that many Ugandans build their homes in phases, prompting the introduction of the Zimba Mpola Mpola Incremental Housing Loan, which allows customers to construct homes progressively as their income grows.

According to Musubika, the facility also supports homeowners seeking to complete unfinished houses, renovate existing homes, expand for growing families or purchase additional land for future development.

Retrowave Operations Manager Arthur Jagwer said the partnership with Housing Finance Bank gave the annual event a broader purpose beyond music and entertainment.

“Retrowave has always been about celebrating timeless music and shared memories. This year, we wanted our guests to leave with inspiration for the future as well. Partnering with Housing Finance Bank reminded everyone that owning a home is one of the greatest legacies anyone can create for their family,” he said.

Housing Finance Bank said its participation reflects its wider commitment to supporting Ugandans in achieving long-term financial security through accessible housing finance solutions.

While the festival celebrated memories of the past, the bank challenged attendees to make financial decisions today that will help create lasting legacies for generations to come.
