Kansai Plascon Uganda has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting growth, innovation and stronger collaboration across Uganda’s construction sector following its sponsorship of the 2026 Construction Hardware Dealers Association (CHADA) Annual Conference, held on 18 and 19 September at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa in Kigo.
The two-day conference brought together hardware dealers, manufacturers, financial institutions, government officials and other players across the construction value chain to discuss some of the most pressing challenges affecting the sector, including taxation, counterfeit products, access to affordable working capital, transport costs, rising material costs, business formalisation and the need to strengthen local manufacturing.
Speaking during the conference, government officials called for greater organisation and cooperation among businesses to enable the private sector to engage government more effectively on issues affecting the industry.
Minister of State for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Gen. Mbasu Mbadi, who officiated at the conference, said stronger organisation among industry players could enable businesses to improve standards, strengthen service delivery and present their concerns to government with a unified voice.
Discussions at the conference also touched on taxation, with government officials noting ongoing efforts to examine the tax environment and address areas where taxes may overlap, while emphasising the importance of taxation in financing public services and national infrastructure.
Minister of State for Finance (General Duties) Amos Lugoloobi urged industry players to view construction not simply as an expense, but as an investment that stimulates economic activity across multiple sectors.
Every development, from homes and schools to warehouses and factories, generates demand for materials, labour and associated services, creating opportunities for businesses throughout the construction value chain.
For Kansai Plascon Uganda, the conference provided an important platform to engage hardware dealers and other partners while demonstrating how innovation can help businesses respond to changing customer needs.
“We are proud to have sponsored the CHADA Conference and to be part of conversations that are important to the future of Uganda’s construction industry,” said Daniel Kayongo, Head of Marketing, Kansai Plascon Uganda. “The challenges facing the sector cannot be addressed by manufacturers, dealers or government working independently. Partnerships across the value chain are critical to improving standards, strengthening businesses and ultimately delivering better solutions to customers.”
Plascon also used the conference to showcase some of its latest product and technology innovations, including its advanced colour-matching solution, which enables customers to reproduce a desired colour with up to 99.5% matching accuracy.
Using the technology, a customer can take a colour sample — such as a piece of fabric or an existing paint chip — to an authorised Plascon dealer equipped with a tinting machine. The colour can then be analysed, matched against the Plascon colour system and reproduced within minutes.
The innovation is expected to provide hardware dealers with an additional service opportunity while giving customers greater convenience and confidence when selecting paint colours.
“Our investment in technology is about making it easier for our dealers to serve their customers,” Kayongo said. “A customer may walk into a hardware shop with a particular colour they want to reproduce. With the right Plascon technology and tinting equipment, that dealer can provide an accurate solution within a matter of minutes.”
Counterfeit construction materials were another major concern raised during the conference, with industry players warning that substandard and counterfeit products continue to affect legitimate businesses, customer confidence and standards within the construction market.
Participants called for closer cooperation between manufacturers, dealers, regulators and government agencies to protect consumers and strengthen quality assurance across the industry.
With Uganda continuing to experience significant demand for housing and infrastructure, industry players noted that the construction sector presents considerable opportunities for investment, local manufacturing, job creation and business growth.
Plascon said stronger partnerships between manufacturers, distributors and hardware dealers will be increasingly important as the industry expands.
Gen. Mbadi also toured exhibition stands during the conference, including the Kansai Plascon Uganda stand, where the company showcased its range of paint solutions, colour technology and innovations to delegates. Other manufacturers and suppliers participating in the exhibition showcased products across roofing, electrical, paint and other construction categories.
Kansai Plascon Uganda said its sponsorship of the CHADA Annual Conference reflects its broader commitment to working alongside hardware dealers and other industry stakeholders to strengthen Uganda’s construction ecosystem.
Through continued investment in innovation, dealer partnerships and customer-focused solutions, the company aims to contribute to a more professional, competitive and sustainable construction industry.
