In a groundbreaking move towards digital transformation and financial inclusion, Airtel Money and the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) have forged a historic partnership, empowering Ugandans to pay taxes and access government services with unprecedented ease. This innovative collaboration, unveiled at a high-profile event, promises to revolutionize civic and business obligations by eliminating the need for physical office visits.
“We’re thrilled to announce that paying taxes or settling URA obligations is now as simple as reaching for your phone,” declared Japhet Aritho, Managing Director of Airtel Money. “No more queues, paperwork, or wasted leave days. Our platform is designed to make life easier for Ugandans.”
With over 335,000 agents across the country, Airtel Money’s extensive network ensures that even those in remote areas can now pay taxes with ease. The platform allows users to conveniently pay for a wide range of transactions, including:
– Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE)
– Value Added Tax (VAT)
– Customs duties
– Passport renewals
– Business license processing
Customers can complete these transactions via the MyAirtel App or by dialing a designated USSD code, making it accessible to everyone, including those without smartphones.
Airtel Money’s commitment to Uganda’s fiscal health is evident, having contributed over 133.4 billion shillings in taxes in 2024 alone. This demonstrates the crucial role digital financial services play in national revenue collection.
James Odong, Assistant Commissioner at URA, praised the partnership, saying, “This collaboration with Airtel further strengthens our capacity to provide convenient, accessible, and secure payment solutions for all taxpayers.
