In the heart of Uganda’s agricultural landscape, a transformation is underway. dfcu Bank, in partnership with the Agribusiness Development Centre (ADC), is empowering smallholder farmers, cooperatives, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to unlock their full potential.
The ADC Impact Report for 2022/2023 highlights the remarkable progress made in transforming Uganda’s agricultural sector. One standout success story is that of Rubanga Cooperative Society, which benefited from ADC’s capacity-building programs. With training in governance, marketing, and financial management, Rubanga secured over USD 2.7 million in export contracts, expanded its processing capabilities, and achieved a 38% price increase through Fair Trade Certification.
This transformation has positively impacted over 9,000 farmers, improving their financial stability and livelihoods. But Rubanga’s story is not an isolated case. Over the past year, ADC reached 885 enterprises and supported 27,079 smallholder farmers through programs focused on governance, financial literacy, marketing, innovation, and climate-smart agriculture.
ADC’s commitment to gender equality is also noteworthy. In 2023, 51.7% of beneficiaries trained by ADC were female, surpassing their target of 40%. This has encouraged greater women’s participation in decision-making processes and improved household incomes.
The economic impact of ADC’s initiatives is tangible, with 554 new jobs created in 2022/2023. Financial inclusion remains a core focus, with ADC facilitating access to formal banking services for 84 enterprises and over 2,177 smallholder farmers.
As dfcu Bank and ADC continue to work together, their partnership is driving economic growth, sustainability, and resilience in Uganda’s agricultural sector. By empowering farmers, cooperatives, and SMEs, they are transforming lives, communities, and the nation as a whole.
