dfcu bank officials launching the corporate rotary club
In a landmark event, dfcu Bank chartered the Rotary Club of Kampala Blue Hearts on August 30, 2025, at its head offices in Nakasero, making it Uganda’s first corporate Rotary club. This significant development was accompanied by a major announcement: dfcu Bank’s commitment of UGX 1 billion over three years to support Rotary Uganda’s medical camps nationwide. The funds will be used to provide essential medical services, including general consultations, maternal and child health support, immunizations, screenings for various diseases, and more.
The medical camps will offer a range of services, including checkups and screenings, with referrals to hospitals for any required treatments. dfcu Bank’s CEO, Charles Mudiwa, highlighted the convergence of the bank’s purpose and Rotary’s mission, stating, “Today, dfcu announced their partnership with Rotary Uganda… The partnership is worth a billion shillings, which will be spread over the next three years. And we believe that, and the main focus of the work that we want to do is to support our fourth pillar of our transforming lives, which is health.”
Mudiwa outlined dfcu’s four community pillars: enterprise development with emphasis on women in business, financial inclusion, vocational education, and health. He noted the alignment with Rotary’s seven focus areas and expressed interest in future collaborations on vocational skills. The partnership was formalized via a memorandum of understanding signed during the ceremony, building on prior joint efforts, including a 2023 solar system installation at a primary school in Luwero.
Guest of honor Xavier Ssentamu, past District Governor, described the charter as breaking a glass ceiling, saying, “We’ve just started a journey… The charter of the first corporate club and to dfcu, to the Rotary Club of Kampala blue hearts, you’ve just broken the glass ceiling.” Ssentamu added that the partnership could expand through the Rotary Foundation to transform the one billion into multiple billions, empowering, leading, and transforming lives.
Rotarian Shem Nnaggenda, Club Advisor, noted that the contribution represents the largest endowment to a Rotary program in Uganda, highlighting dfcu’s passion for transforming communities and Rotary’s vision of transforming lives. The partnership aims to turn resources into real community impact, with dfcu and Rotary Uganda working together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Ugandans.
