To boost Uganda’s export trade and promote local products globally, Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) has signed a 5-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The partnership will see UBL supply Ugandan missions abroad with its iconic gin, Uganda Waragi, and other locally made products.
This collaboration is part of the government’s agenda on national socio-economic transformation, aimed at supporting export trade and boosting local production through the “Buy Uganda, Build Uganda” initiative. UBL Managing Director, Andrew Kilonzo, hailed the partnership, saying it would not only promote Ugandan brands internationally but also bring in monetary value for both UBL and the government.
Under the MoU, UBL will provide sampling products on a quarterly basis for stakeholder and diplomatic engagements, while the Ministry will facilitate bilateral trade between countries and find markets for Ugandan products. The partnership is expected to stimulate interest in Ugandan products, particularly Uganda Waragi, and potentially lead to export opportunities.
The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Bagiire Vincent Waiswa, emphasized the importance of partnerships like this one in driving the government’s 10-fold growth strategy, which focuses on agro-industrialization, tourism promotion, mineral development, and science and technology transfer.
This partnership is a significant step towards promoting Uganda’s local products and showcasing the country’s rich cultural heritage to the world.
