Capital One Group Hosts ESG Summit to Advance Uganda’s Sustainable Business Agenda

Capital One Group successfully hosted the 2025 ESG Summit in Kampala, Uganda, bringing together leading voices in sustainability, business, and governance. The summit’s theme, “Driving Sustainable Growth Through ESG Integration,” provided a platform for knowledge sharing and engagement on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. This event marked a significant milestone in promoting sustainable business practices in Uganda.

In his opening remarks, Paul Mwirigi Muruingi, Managing Director at Capital One Group, emphasized that ESG is a strategic driver for brand trust and long-term success, rather than just corporate social responsibility. “ESG is no longer about compliance; it’s about resilience, reputation, and real growth.” Muruingi’s sentiments were echoed by other speakers, who highlighted the importance of integrating ESG principles into business strategies.

The summit featured a keynote address from Douglas Kativu, Director at the Global Reporting Initiative, who highlighted the significance of ESG in Africa’s development trajectory. “ESG must not be treated as an afterthought but rather as a business imperative to achieve inclusive and sustainable growth in Uganda.” Kativu’s insights provided valuable context for the discussions that followed.

Other speakers, including Charity Winnie Kamusiime Asiimwe (Uganda Marketers Society) and Irene Nakasiita (Public Relations Association of Uganda), emphasized the importance of sustainability and the role of business leaders in driving real impact. They encouraged businesses to adopt sustainable practices and prioritize ESG considerations in their operations.

The summit’s objectives included facilitating business learning, promoting ESG knowledge, enhancing professional networking, and supporting regional business development. The event provided a platform for participants to share experiences, best practices, and innovative solutions to sustainability challenges.

The upcoming ESG Impact Report, set to be launched in October, promises actionable insights into ESG integration for local businesses. This report will serve as a valuable resource for businesses seeking to adopt sustainable practices and improve their ESG performance.

The event enriched participants with ESG knowledge, stronger professional networks, and tangible ideas for integrating sustainability into their business strategies. Increased ESG-oriented investments and regional partnerships are expected as a result of the summit, contributing to Uganda’s sustainable development goals.
