PostBank Uganda is set to change its name to Pearl Bank Uganda Limited, subject to approval from the Bank of Uganda. This decision was made during the bank’s 2024 Annual General Meeting, where shareholders approved the rebranding proposal.
The name “Pearl Bank” is inspired by Sir Winston Churchill’s description of Uganda as “The Pearl of Africa,” symbolizing purity, wisdom, wealth, status, and prosperity. According to Finance Minister Matia Kasaija, the new name aims to evoke a sense of pride in being Ugandan.

PostBank Uganda has demonstrated impressive financial performance, with a profit after tax of Shs35.4 billion, reflecting a 28% growth from 2023. The bank’s income grew by 20% from Shs206 billion to Shs248 billion, driven by increased business volumes and efficient operations. Deposits increased by 25% from Shs790 billion to Shs990 billion, while the loan book grew by 19% from Shs603 billion to Shs719 billion.
These impressive growth numbers demonstrate PostBank’s commitment to providing innovative financial solutions to its customers. The bank’s focus on supporting MSMEs and the agriculture value chain has contributed to its success, and the rebranding is expected to further enhance its reputation and appeal to strategic partners and high-value deposit customers.
