dfcu Bank, through the dfcu Foundation, has donated 100 computers to the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance in a move aimed at strengthening digital skills, innovation and entrepreneurship across Uganda.
The donation forms part of a strategic partnership between the Ministry and the dfcu Foundation to support the government’s digital transformation agenda by equipping National ICT Innovation Hubs with the tools needed to train young people and nurture technology-driven enterprises.
The computers will be deployed across innovation hubs to provide aspiring entrepreneurs, students and technology enthusiasts with improved access to digital learning resources, innovation facilities and business development support.
Officials said the initiative is expected to enhance digital literacy while creating opportunities for youth to acquire practical ICT skills that are increasingly required in today’s job market.
Speaking at the partnership launch, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, Dr. Aminah Zawedde, described the collaboration as a significant step towards expanding Uganda’s digital economy through stronger public-private sector cooperation.
She said innovation hubs play a critical role in identifying and nurturing local talent, adding that access to modern technology will enable more young Ugandans to transform ideas into viable businesses and contribute to national development.
The partnership will also support programmes in entrepreneurship, digital finance, e-commerce and business incubation, providing innovators with technical training and mentorship to help commercialise their ideas.
Mabel Kasente Ndawula, Executive Director of dfcu Foundation, said the collaboration reflects the institution’s commitment to empowering communities through technology and enterprise development.
She noted that by combining the Ministry’s nationwide innovation infrastructure with dfcu Foundation’s experience in supporting small businesses, women, youth and farmers, the partnership will expand opportunities for inclusive economic growth.
Helena Mayanja, Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at dfcu Bank, said digital technology has become a key driver of economic transformation and that investing in innovation hubs will help prepare young people for emerging opportunities in the digital economy.
She added that access to technology, coupled with the right training and mentorship, will enable innovators and entrepreneurs to build resilient businesses capable of creating jobs and improving livelihoods.
The partnership underscores the growing role of collaboration between government and the private sector in accelerating digital inclusion and equipping Ugandans with the skills needed to compete in an increasingly technology-driven world.
Officials expressed optimism that the initiative will strengthen innovation ecosystems across the country and contribute to Uganda’s long-term vision of building a digitally empowered and knowledge-based economy.
