KAMPALA — Housing Finance Bank (HFB) has intensified efforts to support university students by taking its education financing services directly to campuses as thousands begin the new academic semester.

Through its ongoing “Tugende Mu Class” campaign, the bank is engaging students, parents and guardians at Makerere University, Makerere University Business School (MUBS) and Kyambogo University, offering education loans and laptop financing to ease the financial burden associated with higher education.

The initiative comes at a time when university students increasingly rely on digital technology for online learning, research, virtual lectures and coursework, making laptops an essential academic tool rather than a luxury.

Under the programme, eligible applicants can access up to Shs5 million in school fees financing and an additional Shs3 million facility to purchase laptops, enabling students to acquire the technology needed to support their studies.

Speaking during the campus activations, Housing Finance Bank’s Head of Sales Coordination, John Veve, said the campaign is intended to make education financing more accessible by taking banking services closer to students and their families.

“Education remains one of the most important investments a family can make, but financial constraints should not limit a student’s ability to pursue their ambitions. Through the Tugende Mu Class campaign, we are providing practical financial solutions that go beyond tuition and address the realities students face today,” Veve said.

Besides loan applications, the bank is offering on-site account opening services, financial literacy sessions and guidance on personal financial management, allowing students to interact directly with banking staff without visiting branch offices.

The activations are running from August 1 to August 8 at Makerere University, August 1 to August 14 at MUBS Nakawa Campus, and August 1 to August 15 at Kyambogo University.

Badru Kabogoza, the organiser of the Kyambogo University Bazaar, welcomed the initiative, saying many students, especially first-year entrants, struggle to meet the financial demands of university life.

“Having Housing Finance Bank on campus gives students and parents easier access to education financing, account opening and financial advice, making the transition into university life much smoother,” he said.

The bank said students and parents will continue accessing the education financing services at its nearby branches after the campus activations, including Wandegeya Branch for Makerere University, Nakawa Branch for MUBS and Kireka Branch for Kyambogo University.

The campaign reflects Housing Finance Bank’s broader strategy of improving access to financial services while supporting students with the resources needed to succeed in an increasingly digital learning environment.
