Dfcu names Karume second executive director in leadership boost

Kampala – dfcu Bank has appointed seasoned banker Margaret Karume as its second Executive Director, reinforcing its top leadership as competition intensifies in Uganda’s financial sector.

The appointment signals the bank’s renewed push for growth, innovation and stronger value delivery to customers and shareholders.

Karume brings over three decades of banking experience across East Africa, having built a reputation in credit risk, corporate banking and executive leadership.

She started her career at Barclays Bank Kenya before joining NIC Bank, now part of NCBA Group, where she rose through senior roles in credit and corporate banking.

Her leadership credentials were further cemented during her tenure as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NCBA Tanzania. There, she oversaw the integration of legacy institutions following a landmark merger widely seen as a defining moment in the region’s banking consolidation.

Karume holds an Executive MBA from the United States International University and has been serving as Chief Credit Officer at dfcu Bank since January 2024.

Her elevation to the board is expected to bolster dfcu’s strategic direction as the bank navigates rapid digital transformation, evolving customer demands and heightened competition in the sector.

The move also reflects dfcu’s broader strategy to strengthen governance and operational excellence while positioning itself for sustainable growth.
