Nile Breweries Limited has appointed Dorah Kukunda as its new Country People Lead, bringing to the brewer an experienced human resources professional with a career spanning several roles across East Africa’s brewing industry.
Kukunda took up the position this month, succeeding Martha Nalubega, who left the company in May 2026 to pursue private consulting, according to the company’s East Africa chief executive officer.
Her appointment comes with experience in people and culture management, talent development and organisational performance, having worked in Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda.
Kukunda joins Nile Breweries from Uganda Breweries Limited, where she most recently served as Human Resources Business Partner for Commercial operations covering Uganda and Rwanda. She assumed the role in April 2025 after three years as the company’s Human Resources Business Partner for Supply.
She also served as acting Human Resources Director at Uganda Breweries between April 2023 and February 2024.
Kukunda’s career in the brewing industry dates back to 2019 when she joined Uganda Breweries as an HR Graduate Trainee. After completing the programme, she moved to East African Breweries PLC, where she worked as an HR Service Delivery Specialist for about seven months.
In January 2020, she joined Kenya Breweries Limited as HR Advisor, Commercial, before later taking on the role of Human Resources Business Partner for Marketing.
She returned to Uganda Breweries in 2022 as Human Resources Business Partner, Supply, a position she held for three years before moving to the commercial function.
Her career has largely focused on developing people, strengthening leadership and supporting organisational performance. She has described her approach as centred on creating workplaces where employees can grow while contributing to business objectives.
With experience across supply, commercial and marketing functions, Kukunda brings to Nile Breweries exposure to different areas of the brewing business as well as experience working across multiple East African markets.
Her new role will see her lead the company’s people agenda in Uganda, including supporting talent, culture and organisational development.
Nile Breweries is part of AB InBev, a global brewing company with operations in several markets.
