ICPAU, CMA, USE and Vision Group launch 2026 FiRe Awards

The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda, in partnership with the Capital Markets Authority, Uganda Securities Exchange and Vision Group, has launched the 2026 Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards aimed at promoting sustainability reporting, transparency and accountability among organizations in Uganda.

The awards were unveiled during a launch event held in Kampala, with organizers calling on entities in the public, private and non-profit sectors to embrace integrated reporting and stronger corporate governance practices. The initiative seeks to encourage organizations to improve the quality of their financial and sustainability disclosures amid growing global uncertainty.

According to ICPAU officials, this year’s awards will focus on sustainability practices and reporting, reflecting the increasing importance of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles in corporate reporting. The organizers noted that businesses are now expected to communicate not only financial performance, but also their impact on communities, governance and the environment.

CPA Stephen Ineget, Chairperson of the FiRe Awards Committee, said the awards are intended to inspire a culture of integrity, accountability and transparency across Uganda’s corporate sector. He encouraged organisations of all sizes, including SMEs, government agencies and NGOs, to participate.

Representatives from CMA and USE emphasised that strong financial reporting remains critical in attracting investment and building investor confidence. They added that sustainability reporting has become an essential component for organisations seeking long-term growth and access to capital.

The FiRe Awards were first introduced in 2011 and have since become one of Uganda’s leading platforms for recognising excellence in financial reporting and corporate governance.
