The Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) has achieved a major operational milestone after receiving three internationally recognised ISO certifications, reinforcing confidence in the systems supporting Uganda’s journey towards First Oil.
The certifications include ISO 9001:2015 for Quality Management, ISO 14001:2015 for Environmental Management, and ISO 45001:2018 for Occupational Health and Safety Management.
The certifications were awarded following an independent assessment by LMS Certification Services, which evaluated UNOC’s management systems against global ISO standards. The assessment confirmed that the company’s processes meet internationally recognised requirements in quality management, environmental responsibility, and workplace health and safety.
UNOC officials said the achievement demonstrates the company’s readiness to support Uganda’s oil and gas sector as the country moves closer to commercial oil production.
The certifications come at a critical time as Uganda advances preparations for First Oil, with UNOC positioning itself as a key player in ensuring that the country’s petroleum operations are guided by strong governance, efficiency, and internationally accepted practices.
UNOC said the recognition reflects its continued focus on operational excellence, responsible resource management, and the delivery of reliable services while safeguarding the environment and protecting employees, contractors, and other stakeholders.
The ISO 9001:2015 certification highlights UNOC’s commitment to quality service delivery through efficient and continuously improving processes. ISO 14001:2015 recognises the company’s structured approach to environmental protection and risk management, while ISO 45001:2018 demonstrates its commitment to maintaining safe working conditions across its operations.
The achievement adds to UNOC’s efforts to strengthen institutional capacity as Uganda prepares to enter the oil production phase and maximise the benefits of its petroleum resources.
