Turaco has named Cedrick Todwell as its new Chief Commercial Officer, Africa, as the microinsurance and technology company moves to accelerate its commercial growth and expansion across the continent.
Todwell, who joined Turaco in 2024, assumed the new role on October 1, 2026, following his contribution to the company’s growth and expansion, particularly in East Africa.
As Chief Commercial Officer, Todwell will oversee Turaco’s commercial strategy across Africa, focusing on revenue growth, market expansion, strategic partnerships and strengthening the company’s country teams.
He has worked with Turaco’s leadership and country teams to grow revenues, increase market share and develop partnerships with banks, microfinance institutions, fintech companies and other distributors.
His appointment comes as Turaco says it has reached more than eight million people through partnerships with organisations including M-KOPA, Absa, ASA International, VisionFund, Opportunity Bank, Advans, Safaricom, Airtel, dfcu Bank, Moniepoint and One Acre Fund.
Turaco has expanded its footprint in recent years, with operations in Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia and Tanzania, while advancing opportunities in Rwanda. The company also entered the Asian market through Pakistan in 2026.
Turaco co-founder and CEO Ted Pantone said his promotion reflected the contribution he had made to the company’s commercial growth.
“Cedrick’s promotion reflects both the significant contribution he has made to Turaco’s commercial growth over the past two years and our ambition for the next phase of the business,” Pantone said.
Todwell said he was grateful for the confidence placed in him by Turaco’s board and management, pledging to strengthen the company’s existing businesses and accelerate growth across Africa.
“My focus will be on strengthening our existing businesses, accelerating growth across Africa and building strategic partnerships that create lasting value,” Todwell said.
He added that technology and artificial intelligence would play an important role in making insurance more accessible and simpler for customers.
Todwell’s appointment comes as Turaco continues to invest in artificial intelligence across customer onboarding, engagement, claims assessment and processing. The company says its long-term mission is to insure one billion people globally through its embedded insurance model, which provides life, health and asset insurance through everyday financial services.
