Centenary Bank Gives UGX 100 Million to Boost Road Safety, Nkozi Trauma Centre

Centenary Bank has contributed UGX 100 million towards promoting road safety and supporting the construction of the Accident and Trauma Centre at Nkozi Hospital, reinforcing its commitment to improving community well-being.

The contribution was announced during the launch of the Kaliisoliiso Dinner Concert 2026, an annual fundraising initiative led by CBS FM in partnership with the Buganda Kingdom and other stakeholders. The campaign raises funds for the hospital’s trauma centre while promoting responsible road use through the Labuka Road Safety Programme.

Speaking at the event, Beatrice Lugalambi, Centenary Bank’s General Manager for Corporate Communications and Marketing, representing Managing Director Godfrey Byekwaso, said road safety is a shared national responsibility that requires collaboration among government, the private sector, cultural institutions and the public.

“Our customers rely on these roads every day to run businesses, go to work, attend school and support their families. Their safety matters because they are the reason we exist,” she said.

According to the 2025 Uganda Police Annual Crime Report, the country recorded 26,044 road crashes in 2025, a 3.7 percent increase from 25,107 cases in 2024. Road fatalities also rose to 5,383, averaging about 15 deaths every day.

Centenary Bank has supported the Nkozi Hospital trauma centre since the first fundraising drive in 2016, contributing more than UGX 400 million through fundraising dinners, marathons, car washes and awareness campaigns. The latest contribution is part of a three-year partnership signed with CBS FM in 2025, under which the Bank committed UGX 280 million to the Road Safety Programme. Following last year’s UGX 80 million donation, the Bank has now contributed UGX 180 million under the agreement.

Lugalambi commended the Buganda Kingdom, CBS FM, Nkozi Hospital and other partners for sustaining the campaign and keeping road safety on the national agenda.

The Kaliisoliiso Dinner Concert 2026 will be held on September 11, 2026, at Hotel Africana. Individual tickets cost UGX 300,000, while corporate tables range from UGX 3 million to UGX 20 million.
