Kansai Plascon Uganda Ltd has donated a range of paints to Luzira Women Maximum Security Prison to support the renovation of buildings and improve the correctional environment for inmates and staff.
The donation includes Weatherguard exterior paint, Super Gloss oil paint, Vinyl Matt and Silk interior paints, roof paint and White Spirit. The materials will be used to repaint buildings within the facility as part of efforts to improve their appearance and create a cleaner and more dignified environment.
Moses Kato, the Head of Sales at Kansai Plascon Uganda, said the donation was part of the company’s long-standing partnership with the Uganda Prisons Service.
Kato pledged continued support from the company, saying Plascon remains committed to working with the Service on initiatives aimed at improving prison environments.
Receiving the donation, Commissioner of Prisons Francis Xavier Elubu, RPC-Kampala Extra Region, commended Kansai Plascon for the support.
Elubu said partnerships with the private sector complement the Uganda Prisons Service’s efforts to improve prison infrastructure as well as the welfare of staff and inmates.
He said such collaborations are important in supporting government efforts to provide safe, secure and humane correctional facilities.
The partnership is also in line with the open-door approach of the Commissioner General of Prisons, Can. Dr Johnson Byabashaija, which encourages collaboration between the Uganda Prisons Service, private sector, development partners and other stakeholders.
Other officials present at the handover included Mukyasi, Assistant Commissioner of Prisons at Prisons Headquarters, and Esther Lamunu, Senior Superintendent of Prisons and Officer in Charge of Luzira Women Prison, alongside other senior officers and staff.
The latest support highlights the role of private-sector partnerships in complementing public efforts to improve correctional infrastructure and create better conditions for inmates and prison staff.
