MIRAI, ICEA General Insurance Commit Back Strongly IBAU’s Upcoming Conference

Mirai General Insurance Uganda Limited and ICEA LION Uganda have reaffirmed strong support for the upcoming Insurance Brokers Association of Uganda Annual Conference (IBAU), signaling renewed momentum to strengthen collaboration and boost growth within Uganda’s insurance sector.

Speaking during pre-conference activities, Daniel Kairu said ICEA LION’s continued backing of the brokerage fraternity reflects its recognition of the critical role brokers play in driving industry expansion.

Kairu revealed that the company has committed sh100m as gold sponsors of the 2026 conference, emphasizing that the decision was driven by the value brokers bring to the insurance ecosystem.

“Today is an exciting day because we are going to walk the walk. Brokers are very important to us, and that is why we have once again come on board as gold sponsors. This was an easy decision because we understand the critical role brokers have played in our growth journey,” he said.

He added that ICEA LION, together with its life and asset management subsidiaries, is participating as a unified group to deepen partnerships across the industry.

“These engagements are exactly what the industry needs—not just conversations, but connections and action; not just ideas, but impact. At ICEA LION, we believe that we are better together,” Kairu noted.

On the conference theme, “Trust Reimagined: Delivering on the Promise,” Kairu said trust remains the cornerstone of insurance, particularly given the intangible nature of the product.

“Insurance is built on trust. What we sell is intangible—you only truly experience it at the point of a claim. Our promise is that when something goes wrong, you will not stand alone—we will stand with you,” he said.

He added that outreach initiatives such as the CSR engagement at Kiswa Primary School demonstrate the industry’s commitment to building trust beyond boardrooms.

“If we want people to trust insurance, we must first show that we are worthy of that trust—not just through words, but through action,” he emphasized, calling on stakeholders to leverage the Mbarara conference to redefine trust and collaboration in the sector.

Meanwhile, Joseph Nsubuga said Mirai’s role as platinum sponsor underscores its deliberate strategy to work closely with brokers in transforming the industry.

“We are very honored to host you as we launch the journey towards the 8th Annual IBAU Conference. As platinum sponsors, we do not take this opportunity for granted. We are proud to collaborate with brokers who are central to our business,” Nsubuga said.

He emphasized that brokers are indispensable in connecting insurers to clients and driving uptake of insurance products across the market.

“At Mirai, we fully understand that brokers are key to the business we do. There is no way we can achieve our goals alone—we need partners who understand the market and can help us reach clients effectively,” he noted.

Nsubuga said the company’s commitment to fast and reliable claims settlement aligns with the conference theme and is central to rebuilding public trust in insurance.

“We believe in delivering on our promise. Once a claim is valid, we ensure it is settled within 24 hours. That is the standard we are setting, but we cannot achieve it alone—we need strong collaboration with brokers,” he said.

He added that the partnership with brokers is intentional and aimed at bridging gaps in trust and insurance penetration across the country.

“This collaboration is not just timely—it is intentional. We want to work together with brokers to ensure we build trust and deliver value to our clients,” he said, urging stakeholders to support the conference scheduled for April 22–24 in Mbarara.

On his part, Edward Nambafu, the Conference Convener commended industry players for their growing support, noting that the conference presents a unique opportunity to refocus the industry on underserved segments.

“On behalf of the organizing committee and the entire fraternity, we appreciate our partners, especially our sponsors, for supporting this year’s conference. Their contribution is key to the success of this initiative,” Nambafu said.

He said the conference will place special emphasis on micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and retail clients, which remain largely underserved despite their central role in Uganda’s economy.

“For a long time, the industry has focused on corporates, but we are now being intentional about the 99 percent—MSMEs and the retail segment. These are the drivers of our economy, and we must design solutions that meet their needs,” he said.

Nambafu assured stakeholders that all preparations for the Mbarara conference are complete, with a strong lineup of speakers and participants expected to attend.

“All is set for Mbarara. We are looking forward to a highly engaging and impactful conference that will deliver value to the industry and strengthen collaboration among players,” he added.

He concluded by expressing confidence that the combined support from insurers, brokers, and partners will translate into meaningful outcomes for the sector.

“We are confident that together, we shall deliver a successful conference and continue building a stronger, more trusted insurance industry,” Nambafu said.
