The Director of Student Affairs at Uganda Christian University (UCU), Pamela Ruth Tumwebaze, has died after she was attacked at her home in Mukono on Tuesday night.
Ms Tumwebaze was reportedly assaulted by unknown assailants who broke into her residence. She was rushed to hospital following the attack but succumbed to her injuries in the early hours of Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
By Wednesday morning, police had not yet issued an official statement on the incident. However, sources at the Mukono-based university confirmed her death, noting that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the attack were ongoing.
Earlier on Tuesday, Ms Tumwebaze had addressed students as the keynote speaker during a community worship service at Nkoyoyo Hall, where she spoke about building healthy and respectful relationships among students.
In a message announcing her death, the UCU students’ alumni described the incident as a brutal attack. “Her life was brutally cut short by thugs who broke into her home last night and attacked her,” the statement read. “Despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries this morning in hospital.”
In a separate statement, the university described Ms Tumwebaze as the youngest Dean of Students in its history and praised her as “a beacon of kindness, compassion and strength whose life touched countless people at UCU and beyond.”
“Her warmth, empathy and willingness to listen endeared her to many, and she will be deeply missed,” the university said.
Ms Tumwebaze had been affiliated with UCU for more than two decades. She joined the institution as an undergraduate in 2000 and graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Over the years, she served in several academic and administrative roles, including Tutorial Assistant, Administrative Assistant, Executive Assistant to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs), Executive Officer to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance and Administration), and Head of the Honors College.Authorities are continuing investigations into the attack.
